She is lying awake at night. Perhaps this is her second or third night up. She is keeping herself up for her own reasons, or sleeps just eludes her. None of this matters though; what really matters is that her mind is slowly going numb and abiding thoughts are beginning to take their toll on her. She tries to find comfort in music, hoping to escape somewhere better, somewhere nice. Instead, she finds her in a state of nostalgia as she presses play to an old song. She is now under a blanket of memories as the music enters her ears. Memories are funny. They can be good, and then there are some that only bring an overwhelming feeling of sadness. It hits her that everything has changed; that so much time has passed that she too, has changed. As the music continues to dance in her ears, she realizes how much she misses the old conversations, the old sights, the old sounds, and the past. She turns off the music and sits in silence. She contemplates the idea of jumping back on memory lane and how she can somehow cherish the moments all over again—to love the person who she once was.
